About the Brookfield Team
Brookfield is set in a calm idyllic setting in the quiet village of Warfield Berkshire.
Steeped in history once the home of Princess Anne’s horses and run by Alison Oliver wife of the well-known show jumper Alan Oliver back in 1968.
The property is now owned by John and Chloe Perry who for the past 25 years have built up a fabulous facility to train and keep your horse at.
John and Chloe came to Brookfield in 1994 and together they quickly established the yard as one of the premier livery and training centres in the area. With a passion for youngsters and young event horses in particular, John and Chloe have trained and competed to great success in eventing, showjumping and racing.
Today, John and Chloe regularly take trips to Ireland to source young horses, either for themselves or clients and have several horses currently eventing from Novice to 3*.
As a livery at Brookfield, you will receive the benefit of their knowledge and support, use of all the super facilities and have your pick of top class visiting trainers, while your horse will receive the very best in equine care from a fully trained and experienced member of the team.
It’s not just about the service and fantastic facilities though. livery owners and staff like to have fun together and many a lifelong friendship has been formed by first meeting at Brookfield. There’s always something to look forward to, whether this be one of our summer barbeques, a drinks party or the annual Christmas dinner and dance.
We believe it is more fun to work together as a team and support each other along the way, whether your goal is to hack out safely, improve your general riding or prepare for competition, everyone is welcome and everyone is encouraged to join in. Why not come and see for yourself!

“Over the last few years Chloe has helped find me three horses – all of which have proved to be successful purchases. By fully understanding our ability and aspirations as riders she was able to guide us through the process of trying horses and narrow down the choices – my daughter and I only tried a handful and my son just the one which was blissfully simple.
As a longstanding livery client of Chloe’s, I totally trust her judgement and having her expertise on our side helped minimise the concern of the unknown surrounding purchasing a new horse, furthermore, she then patiently helped my daughter and I overcome the inevitable nervous wobbles of the first few months with a new horse!
I would now not consider purchasing a horse without Chloe’s input and am very grateful for her help to date.”
John started his career working in the racing industry in Lambourn. Having gone there straight from school John has never lost his passion for the sport. He has bred, trained and ridden point to pointers, national hunt, and flat race horses to the winner’s enclosure. However, his favourite and most successful were Anglo-Arab flat race horses where he had tremendous success.
On the yard, John specialises in getting horses jumping and regularly helps liveries with their jumping style and confidence.
John used to team chase with the Boring Gorings and led them to second place at the 2005 national team chase championships. He was also trainer to the late Phillip Scouller giving him his 50th winner at Tweseldown on Sulphur Springs.
John now focuses his time being the master of the Berks and Bucks Draghound Hunt as well as training two point-to-pointers which are both qualified and already starting racing.
Liveries regularly join John for a day with the Hunt over the winter. It has proven excellent in getting horses ready for their cross country – as well as being a great day out!
Having over 25 years experience both running a busy competition yard and riding herself, in both eventing and show jumping, Chloe is uniquely placed to train, help and support liveries and their horses.
This includes training programs, fitness regimes and finding the best horse for a rider for a successful partnership.
Chloe produces top class event horses for professionals and amateurs. With an eye for a good four year old, she buys the youngster broken or unbroken and manages all schooling, training and fitness work from the yard.
When they start out on their competitive career the horses are carefully paired with the best professional rider to help them progress smoothly into eventing.
We employ experienced grooms who have already worked with competition horses in various discipline. Each groom will look after and care for the same group of horses daily. This consistency enables them to get to know each horse incredibly well and spot immediately, if there is a change in health or demeanor.
We believe our customer’s horses should only be ridden by people we would trust to ride our own, so we invest a great deal in the training of our staff. Our staff receive regular training on livery horses, using the same instructors that we use for ourselves.
We are very lucky to have some of the best in the business!
